About the Artist

I took up watercolor painting about 8 years ago as a counterpoint to my work as a clinical psychologist, living and later working in Takoma Park. Over time, I developed a desire to paint landscapes to try to convey my emotional response to nature. I have experienced peace, joy and sometimes even ecstasy on my many hikes and forays into nature both in the U.S. and abroad. Recently I have begun to move in a more abstract direction, hoping to evoke a mood or inspire observers to recall their own experiences of the natural world. I continue to be challenged by the tension between guiding the watercolor and allowing it to find its own way.
